The Music Man
|
As a testament to the versatility of it's members The Minerva Club show in November 2002 was The Music Man which is almost the opposite of our previous show Chess in terms of style, music and above all the "feelgood factor"THE MUSIC MAN is the story of traveling salesman/confidence trickster Professor Harold Hill who visits the small Iowa town of River City in 1912 to ply his trade.
This all-American family musical is guaranteed to entertain, featuring an entire score of classic hit songs including "Til There was You", "Gary, Indiana", "Lida Rose" "Trouble" and of course, "Seventy-six Trombones".
A classic film version of the musical also starred Robert Preston, Shirley Jones and a very young Ron Howard. Before achieving success as a Broadway writer, the author, Meredith Willson, was a popular radio personality and bandleader who occasionally worked with Frank Loesser (who wrote Guys and Dolls). Loesser so believed in this show that he backed it for years of development and produced the original production. The Music Man is unquestionably one of the most beloved shows of all time.

PRODUCER - Iain Fraser
Once
again, after great successes with Fiddler on the roof and Chess, we
were privileged to have secured the services of Iain
Fraser to produce this amazing show with his usual enthusiasm
and tenacity. |

MUSICAL DIRECTORS - Hugh Reid/Andrew Salmond We had both Hugh Reid and Andrew Salmond as MD. Hugh previously served as our pianist and assistant MD for many years as well as having officiated as Musical Director for a number of other clubs in the last few years. Hugh was joined by Andrew Salmond who is relatively new to The Minerva Club but has proven himself an able MD and an excellent choice as Co-Director with Hugh.
